Description

FabFilter Twin 2 is equipped with the best possible oscillators, award-winning filters and an innovative interface that makes sound design a breeze! Rather use presets? Twin 2 comes with more than 1600 quality sounds that you can use right away.

FabFilter’s One synthesizer made a huge splash when it first premiered, earning high praise for its fantastic filtering and analog-sounding tone. But they ain’t done yet! They’ve introduced the Twin 2, which builds upon the One’s foundation and surpasses it in many ways. With three oscillators, four filters, easy-to-use modulators, and TONS of presets, it’s a fantastic-sounding, highly customizable synthesizer with lots of potential.

Let’s say you want to create your own signal path or preset. It’s easy! Your signal starts with three separate oscillators, with individual level and panning controls, as well as several waveform and noise options. You’ll be immediately impressed with how fat and warm these oscillators are, and having three different oscillation waveforms makes for a lot of really interesting signals, especially considering this synth has up to 32 note polyphony. You can also use them to modulate each other using ring modulation, and make each note (or chord) glide using the portamento control.

In Depth

It wouldn’t be FabFilter without some great filters to go with it! Use one of 11 characteristic modes, which include FabFilter One’s legendary filter. You can run them in series or parallel mode. Additionally there is a stereo delay feature with tempo sync, feedback, cross-feedback, and delay time controls. Two of the filters are located in this section as well. Having both of these signals can be helpful if you want to create signals that can bounce back and forth across a stereo field.

But everything really comes to life once you start adding modulators to the signal, which will automatically adjust your parameters based on the modulation settings. All you have to do is add a modulator: XY, XLFO, envelope generator or follower, or MIDI controller parameter. Then, using the drag-and-drop method, connect each one to a parameter (or two, with the option of inverting them). You can have up to 50 modulators going, meaning you could realistically have a separate modulator for every single parameter knob of your oscillators, filters, and delays. Thus, you can make a setting as simple or complex as you’d like.

Of course, if you’re not interested in doing any of that, choosing from one of 1600 presets will make it easy enough to find the sound you want. They include all kinds of sounds ranging from arpeggiated sequences to synth leads and pads, drums, guitars and more. And they’re all easy to modify considering how intuitive the modulators are. Between that and the helpful hints, the ability to use a sidechain input as the carrier, and MIDI learn functionality, you’ll never run out of ways to make new sounds with this baby.
