Description

DIGITAL DREAM MACHINE
The Synclavier V faithfully recreates the elite digital synthesizer/workstation that started it all, powering some of the biggest hits and film soundtracks of the early 80s with its unique rich, edgy sounds.

Get ready to go back to the 1980s. You’ll feel like you’re there as soon as you kick on the Synclavier V. Yes, Arturia has made a plug-in version of the iconic digital synthesizer workstation that was ubiquitous in that era. Beloved by record producers, film composers, and sound designers alike, this machine has been used on so many classics, it’d be tedious to list them all. Now, you can get the whole thing in your DAW.

This plug-in is based entirely upon the original’s digital code. That means this plug-in is literally a real Synclavier! But now you can get the partial timbre synthesis that characterized the original in even greater detail. Only the best could afford to use it during the machine’s original run, but now you have an even better version of the instrument – all in a far more compact, easy to use package. Believe me, this plug-in is likely the most streamlined version of the synth ever.

In Depth

You can get started with your MIDI controller immediately. If you want to assign controls to it, it’s really easy.  You could leave it up to the masters, use one of many great presets, and be ready to perform in seconds. There are 450 presets of virtually all of the iconic sounds from the synthesizer’s most famous moments, from “Beat It” to The Princess Bride. But if you’re like us, you’ll probably eventually want to explore the inner workings of the synth. For this purpose, it also includes an additional graphic waveform screen that gives you even more precise control of each partial and FM modulator. This allows you to create a patch based upon your very own customized partial timbres, which means if you’re willing to take the time, you can make this thing sound like nothing you’ve ever heard before.

This plug-in surpasses the capabilities of the original with a few modern updates. These include higher bit-resolution, more partial timbres, more waveforms, and brand new additional effects. With all of the possibilities that the Synclavier V gives you, you have the means to take this synth beyond its familiar sounds into newer, more radical experiences.

Main Features:

  • Flagship Digital Synth

Recreating the original’s digital code entirely, this plug-in is literally a real Synclavier synthesizer. The sounds are generated exactly the same way as the original, classic digital synth sounds of the late 1970s through the 1980s.

  • Hundreds of great-sounding presets (including 50 from the original), from big monoponic bass to full polyphony string synths, pads, percussion, sequencers, and sound effects.
  • VST, VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone operation
  • Playlists – Presets saved in bundles – great for live performance.
  • Virtual Keyboard interface (use mouse or MIDI controller) with pitch bend and mod wheel plus timbre, envelope, arpeggio and polyphony controls allow for a great deal of timbres per note
  • Control the settings of up to 12 partial timbres and each modulator
  • Precise controls for partial timbre settings, polyphony, arpeggiator, amplitude envelope, harmonic envelope, vibrato, and stereo output
  • MIDI learn allows you to assign parameter controls to your MIDI controller, giving you hands-on control
  • Additional Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Delay, and Reverb Effects with their own controls
  • Create customized synth patches from the ground up, with either the control knob interface or the Graphic Waveform screen’s many control parameters

New, modern features unique to the Synclavier V

  • Control of bit depth – now you can go from 4-bit to 24-bit resolution (compared to the original’s 8-bit)
  • More waveforms – the original sine wave plus sawtooth, square and triangle
  • FM modulator waveforms increase the palette of sounds
  • More timbres – now you can use up to 12 partial timbres (up from the original’s 4)
  • Additional effects include Flanger, Phaser, Delay, Chorus, and Reverb, each with their own parameter controls

Keyboard Interface/Controls

  • MIDI Learn mode lets you assign parameter controls to your MIDI controller
  • Virtual Keyboard Interface Control lets you control timbres settings with Volume, pan, transpose, tuning, chorus, modulation and bit depth controls
  • Control your amplitude and harmonic envelopes with Attack, decay, and release controls
  • Create arpeggiated sequences with Arpeggiator’s repeat, sync, rate and pattern controls
  • Operate in Monophonic and Polyphonic modes with optional “retrigger” modes for each
  • Control the volume, panning, envelopes, vibrato and stereo output of each partial timbre individually (up to 12 partial timbres)
  • Delay, Attack, Peak, Decay, Sustain and Release controls for each envelope
  • Set your vibrato with waveform control, levels for carrier and modulator, a “sync” feature to connect to the track, and four different vibrato modes
  • Set your stereo output with waveform control, attack and phase controls, and three different modes

Graphic Waveform Screen controls

  • Control envelopes, key dynamics, time slices, mix, modulators and effects of each partial timbre with this screen’s detailed menu
  • Control the characteristics of each partial timbre
