Description

Are you ready to get funky?
Let’s get superstitious, or make our way to Cripple Creek. With Arturia’s Clavinet V, you have the gloriously funky magic of the Clavinet in a software synth! A ubiquitous instrument in the 1970s that was used by artists like The Band, Stevie Wonder, Billy Preston, and Sly Stone, this instrument took R&B, funk, rock and jazz into a new, percussive, and undeniably cool direction. There have been an untold number of digitial recreations of this instrument, from cheap keyboards to advanced plug-ins – with mostly uninspiring results. However, this time, Arturia has done the seemingly impossible yet again, with another great replication of a classic instrument using their signature True Analog Emulation (TAE).

The original instrument, which was manufactured by Hohner from them mid-sixties to the early eighties, was related to the clavichord. With a percussive, fun sound that was well suited to the tight rhythms of funk and R&B, it was often combined with then-modern effects such as wah, delay, and other types of filters to create the iconic sounds that are most often recognized by listeners now. Now, with this package, you now can control not only the instrument with precise dynamic response and feeling, but add the necessary effects to it right from the jump! No need for more plug-ins later, you can get what you need from the easy-to-use keyboard interface, and also control your tone and effects via the really cool amplifier and stompbox interface controls. This increases the overall functionality of the instrument, making it easy to dial in the iconic sounds of the past, but also take this relic into wild new directions that can be applied to production of newer types of music like EDM and hip-hop.

In Depth

What we loved about this, more than anything else, was the dynamic response and accurate sound. It really does feel like you’re playing the actual instrument. This makes for a much more FUN playing experience, unlike most recreations of this sound which often sound flat and tinny. Having an amp and stompbox interface also made it fun for those of us who like amps and pedals! Recreating the vintage look, sound, and feel of the instrument, you no longer have to settle for any of your old, tinny keyboard recreations. Get as close as possible to the real deal without needing anything more than a MIDI controller.

Main Features:

  • Full recreation of the Clavinet D6 using Arturia’s TAE emulation
  • Control your tone with realistic controls, including the two pickups and original six-core pickup design with selector switches and a damping slider
  • Full MIDI capabilities with easy MIDI mapping
  • Works as standalone, AU, AAX, VST2 or VST3 instrument
  • Beats most imitations by recreating the dynamic action and response of the original instrument, as well as its unique tone
  • 74 factory presets that include many of the instrument’s most famous sounds, complete with effects
  • Complete collection of effects, with cool stompbox interface controls, that can be used up to five at a time, with order of effects completely customizable just like a real pedalboard
  • Modified tube amplifier emulation with cool amplifier design interface gives you a real tube sound – a crucial element in recapturing the classic tone
  • Ability to adjust the inner workings of the instrument via the additional advanced screen allows for an even more

Controls:

  • Incredibly easy to use, just connect your MIDI controller and start playing, getting the immediate, responsive feel of that real thing
  • MIDI Learn lets you control parameters from your MIDI Controller, making the experience even more intuitive and hands-on
  • Keyboard interface has 5 octaves, 4 EQ settings (brilliant, treble, medium and soft) which can all be triggered independently and simultaneously, plus volume and mute/damping controls
  • Control the amplifier settings, changing the character of the instrument, with volume knob, three EQ knobs for bass, middle, and treble, a bright switch, Reverb level with speed and intensity controls, and a master volume. This allows you to drive the signal just like using a tube amp!
  • Effects can be added to the signal, driving the amplifier in different ways and adding new textures to the mix! Includes delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, and auto-wah effects, each with their own cool stompbox controls. Change the order of the pedals in order to get different combinations of sounds, and to change how they interact with the amp.
  • Presets make getting the sounds you want really easy – no need to fiddle around for hours. Unless, of course, you want to use the…
  • Advanced mode screen! This allows for further refinement and editing of the model itself, allowing you to manipulate and control harmonic profiles, velocity curves, string resonance, release time, tuning, key release noise, dynamics, hammer hardness and pickup noise with intuitive knob controls – all before the signal hits the effects and amp modeler
